Meet other families (at co-op, online) Talk about your concerns, build connections, and support.
Get to know your state’s homeschool law.
Learn the laws for your state about notification, testing, record keeping & other topics.
Learn your child’s learning style & your teaching style.
Does your child like to touch or listen to learn? How about you? This is something you will learn as you experience educating your child.
Find the curriculum.
There are so many options. There are complete packages or you can create an eclectic mix. Ask other parents and get their feedback. Customize it for each child!
Create your school schedule.
Think outside the box! Education does not need to be at a desk, or regular “school hours.” Make a plan, organize, and have fun.
Enjoy the journey.
Have fun! Be flexible and creative. If math is frustrating one day…drop it and move on. Come back to it another day. Constantly re-evaluate what you doing to make it better.
Celebrate your child’s growth and achievement.
Share their work, put it on the fridge, send a picture to grandparents, or brag to others! Celebrate their success.
